Mill Ridge Farm: a Thoroughbred legacy

Mill Ridge Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, is a Thoroughbred nursery founded by Alice Chandler in 1962. She began with 286 acres and four mares inherited from her father, Keeneland co-founder Hal Price Headley, whose Beaumont Farm raised Menow.

A defining early success was Sir Ivor, foaled and raised at Mill Ridge before winning the 1968 Epsom Derby. The farm later foaled and raised Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo and his half-brother Tiago, and helped nurture champions including Point Given and Havre de Grace.

Today, Chandler’s son Headley Bell and grandson Price Bell carry forward the farm’s horse-first approach to raising and caring for Thoroughbreds. Mill Ridge Farm is in Lexington, Kentucky; our Mill Ridge Farms neighborhood is in Fishers, Indiana.
